Does God Hate Sin but Love Sinner?

  • God hates sin and He hates sinners alike - Because God is unbelievably patient with mankind, does not in any way diminish the fact that He hates sin and hates sinners. As a just Ruler or Judge, God must punish sin, which the Bible defines as “transgression of the law” in 1 John 3:4. He absolutely will judge and punish all who are not His children in Hell. Unsaved sinners are under the fury of God’s wrath. God is loving and merciful; but He is also holy and just and holds men created in His image accountable for their transgressions against His Law.

Psa 11:5 "The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth"

Psa 7:9-12 "Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. 10 My defence [is] of God, which saveth the upright in heart. God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready."

Psa 5:4-5 "For thou [art] not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity."

  • We are all wicked in the eyes of God, not just terrorists, murderers or people who do violent crimes. God has appointed a day of Judgement.

Rom 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

Rom 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God"

Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Matt 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him [God] which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell"

2 cor 5:10-11 " For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences."

  • We all are by nature children of wrath and enemies of God until we are reconciled to God by the blood of Christ and translated into kingdom of his dear son, and adopted as God's children.

Eph 2:3-5 "Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)"

Rom 5:8-10 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

Col 1:12-14 "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:"

Eph 1:5-6 "Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved."

  • God’s love goes to those who become saved. On the other hand, Unsaved sinners are under the fury of God’s wrath. Before we are saved God is angry with us and we are under His wrath until He saves us then He is no longer angry with us. God’s hatred is upon those who remain unsaved. Of course, He chastises the sins of His children [saved] but as father chastises his children, not to destroy them but to put them on right path.

John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Isa 12:1 "And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me."

Heb 12:7-8 "If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons."

I John 4:9-10 "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation [covering] for our sins"

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"
